Jenni:
Hey friends! Welcome to Quick Minute Tips. If you’re like most people, you spend a large portion of your day sitting. This causes tension in your body, but if you’re sitting in an office chair, you’ll probably feel this most in your back and spine. This Quick Minute Tip is a Chair Twist, and offers an easy technique for releasing that tension throughout your workday. It can be done from the comfort of your office chair, and makes a huge difference in just a few minutes.
Start with both feet planted on the floor. Twist from the waist, turning your torso to the right. Place your left hand on your right thigh, or on the right arm of your chair. Bring your right hand to the back of your chair. Use your hands to help twist your spine, and with each exhale twist a little deeper. Hold this pose for a few breaths, feeling the stretch in your ribs and back. Come back to center, and repeat on the other side. If you repeat this a few times on each side, you may notice you can stretch deeper each time.
If you’d like an even deeper stretch, before twisting to the right, cross your right leg over your left leg. This adds a light hip stretch to the mix. Obviously switch legs for the other side. I hope this tip brings a bit of relief during a long workday. See you next time!
