Intro:
Welcome to the Ashes to Wings podcast, where we tell stories of overcomers, and give you tips and tricks to living a fuller, more embodied life, here's your host, Jenni O'Connor.
Jenni:
Hey friends! Welcome to Quick Minute Tips. This Quick Minute Tip is on Straw Breathing. This breathwork technique helps regulate your nervous system, and bring calm and peace to your mind. I find it especially effective when I’m in a frustrating situation like rush hour traffic. As with all breathwork, if you have asthma or breathing issues, tread lightly and follow any directions from your doctor. If you feel dizzy or light-headed, take a break or stop.
Sit comfortably, and take a deep inhale through your nose, breathing from the diaphragm so your belly rises. Purse your lips as if you have a straw in your mouth. As you exhale, force the air out slowly through that hole. The smaller the hole, the longer you will take to exhale. And any breathwork where you exhale longer than you inhale helps relax your body and mind.
Do this until you feel calmer, and then return to your natural breathing rhythm, taking your time before coming up to a stand. Let me know how it went! See you next time!
